Tarrant County resident Lori Sahinkaya, wife of Turan Sahinkaya, received an Honorable Mention in HumorPress.com's “America's Funniest Humor” Contest, earning publication online and in print. Turan Sahinkaya states, “What an incredible honor for Lori to get selected for this prestigious publishing project.”

Humor Press TM, one of America's most popular humor sites, publishes the funniest humor columns, humor essays and real-life humor stories! Turan Sahinkaya remarks, “I am really proud of Lori to have her talented writing and hard work pay off once again.”

Lori's entry, "The Unspoken Contract," is about a piece of paper mothers and fathers must sign upon having children, stating all of the silent terms and conditions of parenting.

Here is a short excerpt from “The Unspoken Contract” written by Lori Sahinkaya, wife of Turan Sahinkaya:

Each and every one of us signed a contract upon having children. Remember that piece of paper spelling out all the terms and conditions of parenting? Recall the fierce negotiations, the lawyers making clear to us our rights and obligations?

It was the contract that you were told can never be broken. The contract that states if you don’t agree to its stipulations you have no one to sue and no judge to hear your case in court.

You remember the contract, right?

Turan Sahinkaya proudly exclaims, “What another great opportunity for Lori to get published and have the public enjoy reading her work as much as I do!”

Turan Sahinkaya’s wife, Lori Sahinkaya, will have “The Unspoken Contract” featured in HumorPress.com's online Humor Showcase. It will also appear in a print edition of "America's Funniest Humor" scheduled for publication in late fall 2009.

Turan Sahinkaya Partners on Patent for Optimal Control System on Electric Motor Driven Vehicle

Turan Sahinkaya has worked with his father, Dr. Yilmaz Sahinkaya, on gaining a U.S. patent acceptance for the Optimal Control System for an Electric Motor Driven Vehicle. This idea is currently being widely discussed among the Top Five vehicle producing manufacturers in the world.

Turan Sahinkaya explains, “Operating conditions experienced by a battery-operated vehicle driven by one or more permanent magnet or separately excited DC motors are sensed and converted into a control signal.

“The control signal is applied to a pulse width modulator which controls the conduction periods of SCR's in such a way that the average motor armature voltage is proportional to the control signal,” adds Turan Sahinkaya.

“In a motoring mode the pulse width modulator operates SCR's to supply current from the battery to the motor armature circuit. This mode usually occurs when the vehicle is moving uphill or accelerating on a level terrain,” states Turan Sahinkaya.

“In a generating mode the pulse width modulator operates SCR's to supply current from the motor armature circuit to the battery. This occurs when the vehicle is moving downhill or is decelerating on a level terrain. The required mode of operation is accomplished automatically by the action of a motor armature current direction sensing circuit,” concludes Turan Sahinkaya.

Turan Sahinkaya’s father, Dr. Yilmaz Sahinkaya, earned a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and is a huge NCAA football supporter of the Michigan Wolverines. Dr. Sahinkaya also earned his Doctorate degree from the world-renowned Caltech University in Pasadena, California. He recently partnered with Santa Clara University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering in California during its Winter Seminar Series to speak on “Intelligent Energy Management System Design.”

Turan Sahinkaya and Lori Sahinkaya are proud parents to have their children Scott, Trent, and Chad win the PTA Reflections contest for multiple years during their time in elementary and middle school.

Reflections is a cultural arts program sponsored by the PTA which encourages creativity and artistic expression. It was developed in 1969 by Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson to interest children, parents, teachers and communities in the arts.

Turan Sahinkaya states, “My kids really look forward to this project each year.” Each year a new theme is chosen and students can enter in four categories: literature, visual arts, photography and music.

Trent, son of Lori and Turan Sahinkaya, had a literature entry entitled “I am really happy when…” that won first place at Colleyville Elementary School. It then advanced to the GCISD district level. Trent Sahinkaya was awarded a special presentation at his school and received a ribbon and certificate.

Chad, son of Lori and Turan Sahinkaya, was the GCISD Council Reflections winner for 2008/09 with his literature entry entitled, “I’m Going to be a Big Brother!” Chad received a trophy and an Award of Merit.

The Reflections Program is a PTA sponsored arts recognition and achievement program for students based on the belief that all children deserve a quality arts education. Turan Sahinkaya says, “My children enjoy expressing themselves through words and this program helps them grow intellectually while at the same time increasing their self-confidence.”

“I hope my children continue to enter the Reflections contest and of course continue to win,” jokes Turan Sahinkaya. In its more than 30-year history, the Reflections Program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art.
